Attorney Carmen Love conducted a presentation to the members of the Seminole county community assistance program on social security and disability. At this workshop she explained the differences between these two federal programs, in addition to explaining the application process. She handed out two worksheets that explained some of the finer details for those in attendance. Approximately 30 members of the Seminole county community assistance were able to benefit from the presentation.

Seminole County Bar Association Legal Aid Society was chosen as the 2016 winner of the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm’s Section’s “L. Michael Roffino Pro Bono Award. KAYLA MEYER, pro bono coordinator accepted the Award on behalf of Seminole County Bar Association Legal Aid Society at the Florida Bar’s Annual Convention in Orlando on June 17, 2016. We are very grateful and appreciative of this generous contribution provided by this section of The Florida Bar.

Attorney Sharon Vollrath and Attorney Stephanie Vollrath gave a presentation on the differences between living wills, power of attorney and health care surrogates. After the presentation, in combination with SCBALAS staff attorneys they were able to execute the advanced directives if the participants desired. This event was done in partnership with Seminole County Community Assistance with about 25 community members present, and approximately 15 taking advantage of the advanced directives execution.

Congressman John Mica presented a U.S flag that was flown over the Capitol to the Seminole County Bar Association Legal Aid Society in recognition of our new Veterans Legal Advocacy Project. Veterans will be able to receive Free legal assistance at the monthly advice clinic held on the second Thursday of the month at the Casselberry Library.
