Each year since 1963, the month of May has been designated as our Nation’s special time for both honoring our older citizens and asking the entire nation to pay tribute in some way to older persons in their communities. We help many elderly residents including Rebecca, who is 72 years of age and a widow. Rebecca obtained a reverse mortgage and was unable to maintain payments of her real estate taxes, insurance and homeowner association dues after her husband died. She received a foreclosure complaint and was terrified. Our staff patiently helped Rebecca respond to the foreclosure complaint and assisted her apply for ELMORE. This program is designed to provide up to $50,000 to eligible seniors with reverse mortgages who are behind on their Property Charges; for those who qualify, up to 12 months of future Property Charges can be paid to help the senior sustain the home. Rebecca was approved for ELMORE and her foreclosure was stopped. Rebecca now enjoys her home with her new cat named Charity.
